The Carbon in Pulp (CIP) process remains one of the most widely adopted gold extraction technologies in modern mining operations. Designed for efficient treatment of low-grade and fine gold ores, the CIP system combines crushing, grinding, leaching, adsorption, smelting, and water recycling into a highly integrated process flow.
The process begins with primary and secondary crushing using jaw crushers and cone crushers to reduce raw ore size. The crushed material then enters a ball mill and spiral classifier circuit for fine grinding and particle classification.
After grinding, slurry is concentrated in a thickener where process water is recovered and recycled back into the plant. Thickened pulp flows into pre-leaching tanks where cyanide dissolves gold into solution.
The adsorption stage is considered the core of the CIP process. Activated carbon inside multiple adsorption tanks captures dissolved gold complexes directly from the slurry, eliminating the need for separate filtration before adsorption.
Loaded carbon is screened and transferred to the smelting section for gold bullion production. Tailings slurry is dewatered through pressure filters, and filtered water is returned to the plant for reuse.
Compared with traditional gold extraction methods, the CIP process offers several advantages including higher recovery efficiency, reduced water consumption, lower operating costs, and simplified plant layouts.
