Metso, a renowned global leader in sustainable technologies and comprehensive system solutions for the mining industry, has recently signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Jinnan Iron and Steel Group. The signing ceremony took place at Metso’s China R&D Center in Changsha, Hunan, marking a significant milestone in the collaboration between the two entities.

‌Key Figures and Witnesses‌

The agreement was signed by Zhang Tianfu, President of Jinnan Iron and Steel Group, and Wen Yangzhi, Vice President of Finance, Administration, and Business Development of Metso Greater China. The ceremony was witnessed by esteemed guests including Le Wenyi, Chairman of China Metallurgical Changtian International Engineering Co., Ltd., and Piia Karhu, President of Metso’s Global Mining Business, alongside Zheng Jiaping, Chairman of Jinnan Iron and Steel Group.

‌Collaboration Scope‌

Based in Finland, Metso brings its expertise in innovative technologies and solutions tailored for the aggregate, mineral processing, and metal smelting industries. The strategic alliance between Metso and Jinnan Iron and Steel Group aims to foster in-depth cooperation in areas such as crushing and grinding equipment, intelligent mineral processing technology, and low-carbon technology research and development.

The initial focus of this collaboration will be the Oman project, where Metso will supply key process equipment for Jinnan Iron and Steel Group’s iron ore concentrator project in Sohar. This port city, located approximately 200 kilometers north of Muscat, Oman’s capital, will witness the establishment of an iron ore concentrator with a designed annual capacity of 12.6 million tons of high-grade iron concentrate, scheduled for commissioning in 2027.

‌Equipment Supply by Metso‌

As part of the agreement, Metso will provide multiple Vertimill® VTM-4500 vertical mills with metal liners, ball mills, HRT high-efficiency thickeners, Larox® FFP3512 filter presses, and a comprehensive slurry pump set. Many of these products are sourced from Metso’s Plus portfolio, renowned for their reliability and efficiency.

‌Alignment with Jinnan Iron and Steel’s Vision‌

Zheng Jiaping emphasized that Metso’s innovative capabilities align perfectly with Jinnan Iron and Steel’s philosophy of “digital intelligence empowerment and green development.” The collaboration aims to leverage complementary advantages, foster collaborative innovation, and achieve green win-win results.

Piia Karhu added that Oman, with its abundant mineral resources and strategic vision for diversifying its economy through the mining industry, offers an ideal platform for cooperation between Metso and Jinnan Iron and Steel Group.
